EU Basketball Tournament

Total of 96 basketball players from the teams of Sarajevo KK Play off, K.K. Bosnia, K.K. Real way and the team from Zenica K.K. Kangaroo competed on Saturday, in front of the BBI center on 12.05.2012. and in this way marked the end of the EU week. This event is the grand finale marking the Europe Week and Europe Day. Pepi, the mascot of the EU Integration, gave the initial basket of the opening basketball tournament.

The teams competed in three categories:
Category 1 Mini Basket - 1998. age and younger
Category 2 juniors - 1996. age and younger
Category 3 cadets - 1994. age and younger

Tournament winners were presented with the prices by Natalia Dianiskova, Head of Operations Section for Social Development, civil society and cross-border cooperation, the EU Delegation in BiH, Marina Kavaz-Siručić, a spokeswoman for the Directorate for European Integration and by Mr Elmedin Konakovic, President of the Commission for Culture and Sport of Sarajevo Canton.

Elmedin (Dino) Konaković said: "I am honored to participate in the celebration of the Europe Day, and I look at this from two aspects: one is that I see the celebration of Europe Day as civilized act, and I consider it my duty to contribute to the celebration of such an important event. On the other hand I welcome the way the celebration is organized - that young people activate themselves trough sports, participate in the celebration of Europe Day and raise awareness of integration into the EU. "

After the presentation of the winners, elementary schools and all tournament participants were enjoyed in the puppet show where Pepi, the mascot of the EU integration, presented some of the EU family members.
